Birds, Silviculture & More! - A Wicopy Woods tour for landowners

Location: Sebec, Maine. Start and end at the landing on the Sebec Village Road across from the Downs Road. Please park on the north side of the less trafficked Downs Road.

Following a Wicopy Woods Tour for foresters the previous day, this tour will follow many of the same themes, with a focus on northern hardwoods and a less technical forestry presentation in this Forest Stewards Guild Model Forest

Themes: Irregular shelterwood silviculture; effect of composition, structure, and harvest removals on forest bird populations; long-term research and monitoring; understory beech and fir control; managing mechanical harvesting using tree marking and trail layout; enrichment planting of white pine and red oak (including tree shelters); crop-tree release of immature northern hardwoods and white pine; silviculture of large-diameter white pine.
