Our forests, and their stewardship, are vital to the region’s economic, environmental, and social well-being. The Forest Stewards Guild and Aitkin County Land Department welcome you to the Long Lake Conservation Center for 1.5 days this June to view and discuss forest management techniques that can enhance migratory songbird habitat, engage woodland owners in forest stewardship, and help ensure a sustainable future for Minnesota’s forests and associated forest products. We will also discuss ongoing efforts to create and support ‘Fire Adapted Communities’ in the region, and how these efforts can support wildlife and forest management objectives.

Full agenda here. Below are some of the highlights:

June 22:

  • Start at 12:30 pm with talks at Long Lake Conservation Center, followed by a late afternoon field tour. Please eat lunch before arriving.
  • We will reconvene after the tour at Long Lake Lodge for dinner, a campfire, and an informal forestry discussion.
  • You have the option when registering to add lodging on site at Long Lake Lodge. This option offers the best opportunity to connect and spend as much time with fellow attendees as possible during this event. For farther away lodging options, see below.

June 23:

  •  We will gather for breakfast and morning orientation, followed by a full day in the field.

Registration covers the event and all meals, as follows:

  • Day 1: snacks (plan on lunch before arriving) and a large dinner
  • Day 2: Breakfast and a bag lunch.

  • Non-participating guests are welcome to join for dinner for $20. They can register separately.
