SUMMARY: About 877,000 acres, or more than two-thirds of King County, is forested with approximately 110,420 acres owned by small forest landowners. The King County Forester is responsible for promoting the growth and development of resilient forests by assisting forest landowners meet their land management goals and objectives. The Forester will work one-on-one with forest landowners (typically those who own more than 5 acres) to facilitate development and implementation of forest management plans that achieve those ecological and economic objectives and will serve with a team of forest management instructors to deliver coached planning workshops and forestry field days. The Forester will work closely with other King County, Department of Natural Resources (DNRP) staff to assist landowners to enroll in and comply with Public Benefit Rating System/Current Use Taxation programs and to navigate the County permitting system. The Forester will also promote existing economic development opportunities to incentivize maintenance of sustainable forestland as well as supports efforts to identify new economic development opportunities.
This position will report directly to the Agriculture, Forestry and Incentives Unit Manager and will have no direct reports but may oversee work performed by contractors.
